For Services and Resources in French Polynesia

The Tahiti Cruisers Guide is brought to you by Julien Desmont from Xperimental and Chuck Houlihan from Jacaranda. Starting as an idea based on the very successful Panama City Cruisers guide, it has evolved into 200+ pages of information on vendors and services throughout French Polynesia. In January 2018, we added GPS coordinates and links to Google Maps to assist in locating businesses.

Downloading the guide and GPS map coordinates will facilitate using the guide offline. The coordinates will work for either Maps.me (best for Papeete) or Google Maps.

Especially thankful to John (SV Mary Ann II) and Steve (SV Ocean Star) for their huge effort in supplying a vast amount of information for the guide.

The guide is a community effort. Updates and new additions are greatly appreciated. If you find the guide useful or find something that needs updating please drop us a note at tahiticruisersguide (AT) gmail.com

8-24 SV Pelagic Life While I'm not one to write a review, even a positive one, I feel compelled to write one now, if only to give back after benefiting from using the guide.

We were recommended Pacific Marine by another cruiser who used them and had received great service.

We made an appointment to meet on the Taina dock Monday morning. We braved the fuel dock lineup and got to our designated spot.

I sent several WA messages and phoned all morning, but never got a response. It wasn't until noon that they replied that they would come and see us on Wednesday now.

I suggested that I could immediately return to the anchorage then and come back Wednesday, but they said I would lose my spot. I'm still not sure if this meant I would lose my spot with them, the docking spot in Taina, or both.

As I don't want to pay for four days on the dock just for an oil change, I will go elsewhere (or do it myself again).

I found their communications poor. It took several days to get a response to get this set up, and it was never clear they would stick to a schedule.

Dominic and Ven helped us with a bad waterintake in our Volvo D2-55, taking it a part and cleaning everything, changing some parts. Motor is working good. They were kind, but had a very hard time to show up to appointed times, even though we prepared many weeks in advance.

The second part they did fuck us up seriously. They had an idea of how to stop exhaust water getting into the motor. They gave us a choice of manual or electric. Then they asked us to order the parts from Ali Express, took many weeks and takes a lot of work with customs. Ended at like 300 $. Then there idea of solution did not work, and they just stopped communicating, yelling at us for costing them a lot of money..... We were already delayed for departure and we had to find a solution in a few days even if we had waited for Dominiqe for many weeks. So please, if possible, work with someone else.

10-21 SV Alila Dominque does all kind of Diesel engines. Now he lives in Papeete . We had some problems with our main engine 140 hp yanmar engine. He repaired the turbo, the gear box, put a new elbow in. For this work he had to take the muffler and the air cooler off. Nothing was a problem for him. He worked so professional and did a fantastic job. In two days everything was done, he understood totally that a boat without engine on anchor is not what you dream of. He really knows his job and we had fully confidence. He definitely is the guy if you have engine problems. We can highly recommend him.

1-21 SV Cyrolia Dominique has been my mechanic for my 2010 Jeanneau 53, since I bought it in December 2020. I have 110 hp Yanmar, and a 5.5 KW Onan generator. Dominique is extremely professional, and as highly skilled of a mechanic as I’ve ever met anywhere. He specializes in Yanmar, but I believe he can work on just about any type of engine (he used to work for Yanmar I believe). For any issue I have had, he instantly knows what the problem is, is able to articulate it and repair it. He’s professional, and his rates are reasonable and fair. Because he is good, he should be scheduled in advance. My experience with Dominique has been extremely positive.

01-21 SV BENGT We would like to recommend Dominique Fily, the diesel mechanic. He did a great jobb getting our engine going again. Competent, experienced and a nice guy. Speaks reasonable English.

5-2019 Kiapa Nui
Dominique is now independent and is not part of STH.

Highly recommend him for Diesel work

Dominque is a diesel and electrical mechanic… He lives on Moorea, but works in Papeete. He is associated with STH in Papeete and they had referred us to him when we had engine issues in Moorea. He came out on a Sunday to our boat to help us. When we continued to have issues he met us at the dock when we arrived in Papeete for further  diagnosis and repairs. Great service. Speaks English and French. I’m not sure if he is an STH employee or a sub contractor, but there is dome connection to STH (Yanmar dealer).
