For Services and Resources in French Polynesia

The Tahiti Cruisers Guide is brought to you by Julien Desmont from Xperimental and Chuck Houlihan from Jacaranda. Starting as an idea based on the very successful Panama City Cruisers guide, it has evolved into 200+ pages of information on vendors and services throughout French Polynesia. In January 2018, we added GPS coordinates and links to Google Maps to assist in locating businesses.

Downloading the guide and GPS map coordinates will facilitate using the guide offline. The coordinates will work for either Maps.me (best for Papeete) or Google Maps.

Especially thankful to John (SV Mary Ann II) and Steve (SV Ocean Star) for their huge effort in supplying a vast amount of information for the guide.

The guide is a community effort. Updates and new additions are greatly appreciated. If you find the guide useful or find something that needs updating please drop us a note at tahiticruisersguide (AT) gmail.com

NOTE: 10-23 SV Auntie Jerome is not longer with Comptoir Polynesian but self employed see his contact info under outboard repair

3-2022 SV Auntie in the small print is a recommendations for Jerome who I think is a service manager. I didn’t motice that, and just took my outboard to Yamaha dealers without asking for Jerome. It was returned a week later with 3 parts damaged/broken that were not that way when I gave it to them. I contacted Jerome at the Yamaha place, he took charge, had the men come get it again, and had everything fixed. Jerome is a ‘must’ when using Yamaha dealers/service in Papeete!

11- 2021:  SV Sugar Shack Our Enduro 25hp outboard stopped shifting in reverse. Matt diagnosed the problem which was a lost, broken or damaged cotter pin on the shifting mechanism. Unfortunately, you had to completely take off the entire motor/powerhead to get to this part.

We stopped by the Yamaha Repair location (next to Nautisport and just down the road from the Yamaha dealership) and spoke to Jerome (he speaks English). They said it would take a long while to get the parts (due to covid), so we ordered them and had them brought in with a guest. Jerome picked up our outboard from Marina Taina (in front of the Fluid Dive center), had it repaired and returned to us within 2 days. In addition, they replaced our spark plugs and changed the oil.

The labor was a little more than we anticipated and the pickup/delivery was 7000xpf. We could have dinghied from Marina Taina to their shop, but then would have had no way to get it to their shop on land.

Overall, very pleased with their service, turnaround, and work. Super friendly, easy to work with, and they do what they say they are going to do!
